The producers of this TV show (Soul
Food) have posted have very brief descriptions of the show
(all existing episodes) at: http://epguides.com/SoulFood/
It is a relief to see that the excellent artistic movie
director
Ken
Girotti and the famous script writer
Charles
Holland have included the scenes in which the
female actor
temporarily suffers from urinary incontinence, has to wear diapers (and
it is also associated with emotional problems in her marriage). Very
few movies ever include scenes with people in diapers, even though at
least 50 % of adult women experience urinary incontinence before the
age of 50, according to the survey research published in medical
literature. It is nice to see, in this movie clip, that the actress is
very attractive and that the diapers do not reduce her personal charm.
Hopefully more movies would include similar scenes because these mass
media could re-educate the mainstream public to be more socially
tolerant (and emotionally supportive) to those in
diapers. It is noteworthy that black Americans have
made this important pioneering step for the rights of disabled persons.
The psychological lesson from
the video clip is as follows: many people around you wear diapers and
most of
the time you do not know who does and who does not. And, most
viewers
would continue seeing the actress as very beautiful even after seeing
the clip:
seeing someone in a diaper does not make much difference with respect
to
judgements about personal beauty...except
for immature people, those who gave up their heart to enslave
themselves
to prejudice.
In these TV series of Soul Food, the
wife and husband
experience other marital problems as well as the stress of a recent
nearly
fatal traffic accident. The wife experiences much self-doubt
and her
self-esteem is further undermined by bladder problems and by having to
wear
diapers: she is worried about her physical attractiveness.
For a
while, her husband is not emotionally supportive and acts in a somewhat
self-centered and immature manner. Eventually, their
emotional and
physical bond is renewed.
In
the movie, disposable diapers (brand
"Dotties") are used which are still mentioned in some internet sites.
